Climate change threatens biodiversity not just one species at a time, but by disrupting the physical features and ecosystem functions that support biota. Although climate change is a problem affecting all parts of the globe, certain ecosystems are more vulnerable to the negative impacts of climate change than others. In fact, some of the areas richest in biodiversity are those that are also the most vulnerable, such as wetlands, coastal areas, and tropical forests.
The map below shows the biomes and ecosystems that have been identified as vulnerable to climate change based on recent studies.
